What is The Blockchain?

So what is the blockchain? We’ve tried to break it down for all the new women entering Web3 to make it as digestible as possible :)

The blockchain is a system of transparently recording information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system.

Simply put, it is a growing chain of records (or blocks), which is stored in a decentralised manner, across all participants in the blockchain, open and viewable for everyone to see.

Each block in the chain contains a number of transactions, and every time a new transaction occurs on the blockchain, a record of that transaction is added to every participant’s ledger.

Think of it like a daisy chain, each daisy represents a block and each petal on the daisy is like a transaction, a certain amount of petals make up a daisy, and a certain amount of transactions make up a block.
